(Seattle, WA) – SpectraCal, Inc., the world’s leading provider of video calibration software, announced today an Android application capable of generating video test patterns for mobile devices.
The pattern generator app, MobileForge, provides reference-level test patterns for measuring the color performance of mobile displays. The application integrates with select CalMAN licenses, generating pattern swatches automatically for performance tests and color evaluations.
The new application is designed for researchers and reviewers evaluating the color performance of mobile displays, but is also available to consumers who are curious about the color accuracy of their phones or tablets.

The new application is designed for researchers and reviewers evaluating the color performance of mobile displays, but is also available to consumers who are curious about the color accuracy of their phones or tablets.
“CalMAN display calibration software is already widely used among hardware review companies assessing computer monitor, projector and HDTV performance,” said Joshua Quain, SpectraCal’s Director of Sales and Marketing.
Hardware review companies currently using CalMAN software for display measurement include Tom’s Hardware, AnandTech, PCMag and CNET. “The release of MobileForge now provides these companies and others like them an opportunity to measure mobile displays with the same equipment,” Quain said. “We hope reviewers will begin adding a ‘color accuracy’ category to their reviews of mobile devices.” For consumers, those with adjustable picture settings on their mobile device can use MobileForge to determine which of their settings most closely matches select color standards. Those without adjustable picture settings can still use MobileForge to measure the accuracy their mobile display. This can be valuable information for prosumer photographers or video editors who use their smart phone or tablet to capture content. “Historically, pattern generation has always been the most challenging component of display measurement to provide,” said SpectraCal CEO L.A. Heberlein. “MobileForge is one of several SpectraCal products aimed at providing accurate, affordable patterns to those using CalMAN software for display calibration and measurement.” |
